Saving a Pelican.

I helped to save a Pelican today. It was a brown pelican. Young, and hurt badly. Probably injured in the storms we have had recently. We had to 'wrangle' him with a bucket and a blanket in the dark. It's quite a feat to catch a Pelican out on the open beach at night. And they get awfully cranky about being cornered. Their bills snap shut with a very very LOUD 'FWAP!' But he is now on his way to the rescue shelter.
update: heard that he will make a full recovery!

12/18 and it's snowing on the beach

it's the Thursday night before Christmas. 1 week to go, and I am celebrated out already. I just traveled back from the sunny land of Florida, where I spent a fantastic week celebrating family, love, holidays, birthdays, and the graduation of my father from his doctoral program. It was wonderful. We were obnoxious. I touched my sister's belly while the little monster kicked, I'm pretty sure he flipped me the bird at least once.
Today, Thursday, has been a day of readjusting back into the 'real' world (as they say, but I'm pretty sure my 'real' world is at home snuggled up with my husband and my puppy and not sitting at a desk), and a day filled with snow, hail, rain, wind, sunshine, and rowdy waves on the Oregon Coast. it's magical, it's beautiful, it's calming and invigorating. I don't know how people live without hearing the roar of the ocean lull them to sleep or greet them in the morning.

I'm an aunt of Elizabeth's little to-be- monster

My sister is ~6months pregnant. My baby sister. The little devilish child that used to put red ants in my bed, would saran wrap a toilet seat, put salt in my toothbrush, etc etc etc...that glorious little child who is now a beautiful caring, artistic, articulate, amazing woman is going to have a son. I pray that he is a monster. And if for some reason, he comes out angelic, I will teach him how to become a little monster. I will gleefully school him in the fine arts of practical jokes that plagued my childhood. Ohhh Elizabeth, my dear sweet loving wonderful sister...I will get back at you thru your son. :) xoxo!
